El Capitan

Last night Lorna, Madaleine and I slept on the summit of El Cap. We’d spent the previous two nights on Lurking Fear, a 17-pitch route on the left side of the Yosemite big wall, and were tired, happy and hungry. As we carried our final loads, peaks of the High Sierra glowed in evening light.

It’s good to be back in Yosemite, even if it is just for a week. Climbing walls is empowering, fun and exhausting. We took one tippy portaledge between the three of us, and spent a couple of crunched nights squeezed together, hanging from the cliff. Good bonding, as the three of us are about to spend a month climbing together in remote northern Canada.
